Theatre Technician - Cultural Venues

Ballarat is home to some of Australia’s most historically significant cultural venues including Her Majesty’s Theatre, Civic Hall and the Mining Exchange. City of Ballarat’s freshly formed Cultural Venues team is embarking on exciting period of change and growth. In late 2024, Victoria’s oldest theatre is re-opening for its 150th anniversary after multiple stages of revitalisation, Civic Hall is returning to its live music touring roots and the Mining Exchange is being re-imagined for the future as a destination for art, performance, design, food, wine and more. 

The Role:

We are looking for experienced theatre technicians to join a refreshed Cultural Venues team to deliver a range of arts experiences and events. Theatre technicians play a critical role in ensuring the seamless delivery of production and technical related components of performances, events and programs. 

This is an opportunity for experienced operators who thrive working in a fast-paced environment and proactively as a part of a team. With a flare for understanding what drives great customer service, the role will have a key responsibility for ensuring both promoter, client and internal programming outcomes are delivered to the highest possible standard and experience.

Key Selection Criteria: 

  • Relevant qualification and/or relevant experience in the live performance industry 
  • Demonstrated ability to champion, model and promote corporate values 
  • High level customer experience skills 
  • Skills in lighting, audio, audio visual, rigging, staging or flying  
  • Ability to interpret detailed theatrical plans and stage plots  
  • Demonstrated experience in event delivery  
  • Current Employee Working with Children Check (WWCC)  
  • Ability to work evening, day and weekend shifts across a 14-day roster 
  • The following qualifications and/or experience are desirable for the position: 
  • Licence requirements – EWP, Electrical Test & Tag  
  • Dogging Certificate (Rigging)  
  • Current Victorian Driver Licence  
  • First Aid Certificate (Level 2)
