The Art Gallery of Ballarat is Australia’s oldest, largest and most engaging regional gallery. The Gallery is home to a nationally significant collection of over 11,500 artworks and hosts more than 30 exhibitions and 200 public programs and events each year. In 2023, the Gallery achieved over 40% growth in visitation and it is a key driver of cultural tourism to the Ballarat region as well as much loved local icon. The Art Gallery of Ballarat is in an exciting period of change and growth. We are looking for a dynamic, creative and results focused individual to join the Gallery’s curatorial team. This role contributes to the development and direction of the Gallery’s exhibitions and collection as well as working with key stakeholders. About You: The successful candidate will have; - Relevant tertiary qualifications in Art History, Curatorial or Museum Studies or substantial experience in other relevant specialist areas.
- Significant experience in a curatorial position in a State or major Regional Gallery or cultural organisation equivalent
- Experience curating innovative exhibitions to deliver audience and stakeholder outcomes and to achieve commercial and social returns
- Experience in working with a significant art collection and an understanding of contemporary collection management issues
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and an ability to write compelling proposals and interpretative material that connects art with audiences, as well as represent the Gallery in public forums
- Demonstrated project management skills including well developed analytical skills and problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects
- Demonstrated ability to manage the expectations of multiple stakeholders, prioritise tasks and achieve work targets within a high pressure environment.
